F1 drivers to go 'bumper-to-bumper' in virtual races amid COVID-19 scare

The Formula one has confirmed that their many of their current F1 drivers will feature in the new F1 Virtual Grand Prix series.

The launch of the 2020 Formula 1 season has been postponed after the rapid outbreak of the coronavirus across the globe.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on March 13 declared that the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic has moved from China, where new cases reported have drastically decreased, to Europe, where most countries are seeing a climb in infections and fatalities.

Virtual Grand Prix series was created to enable fans to continue watching the races virtually while the kick-off the new season was postponed.

"The first race of the series will see current F1 drivers line up on the grid alongside a host of stars to be announced in due course," the Formula One said in a statement.

"In order to guarantee the participants safety at this time, each driver will join the race remotely, the statement added.

The rapid spread of Coronavirus worldwide has started seeing its serious impacts. With over 270 plus cases in India only, many sporting events have either been cancelled or postponed.

More than 240,000 people have been infected with the virus so far worldwide, with over 10,000 fatalities.

"Due to the wide variety of gaming skill levels amongst the drivers, game settings will be configured in such a way to encourage competitive and entertaining racing," the statement further read.
