Asian Games gold-medal winner Swapna Barman's house robbed in Jalpaiguri

According to reports, unidentified miscreants fled away a gold chain that belonged to Swapna's mother.

Asian Games medal winner Swapna Barman's house was robbed by unidentified miscreants in Jalpaiguri on Saturday. According to ANI, some people forced their way into the residence of Barman and fled away a gold chain that belonged to her mother Basana Barman. 

The family has already filed a police complaint and the probe is underway.

Swapna had become the first Indian female heptathlete to win the gold medal in Asian Games history. She finished the event with her personal best score of 6026. 

The 21-year-old, who has six toes on either feet, has made her mark overcoming many difficulties. Swapna's father is a rickshaw puller and has been bedridden for over quite a few months. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced a prize money of only Rs 10 lakhs for the athlete.
