Pakistan captain Younus Khan submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ejaz Butt as a mark of protest after appearing before the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Sports and facing questions regarding match fixing during the Champions Trophy.

The dramatic development occurred on Tuesday after an agitated Khan literally walked out of the National Assembly building in Islamabad.

Initially, during his appearance in front of the standing committee members, Khan had offered his resignation verbally as he lost his cool after the chairman of the Standing Committee on Sports, Sardar Jamshed Ahmed Dasti, spoke harshly and asked him to clarify his position on allegations that the team might have thrown the semifinal against New Zealand on purpose.

When Khan stated he wanted to resign, PCB chairman Ejaz Butt said the Standing Committee had nothing to do with the matters of resignation and the Board solely had the authority to deal with such decisions. It was then that a visibly simmering Khan handed over his written resignation to the PCB chairman.

Rameez Raja accused the Standing Committee of putting Pakistan cricket in jeopardy. “You cannot question the integrity of a player and an outstanding captain who brought home the World T20 trophy just because of a baseless news story,” Raja said.

According to the source Younus apparently was also not happy with the behaviour of the team management.
