American footballer Jay DeMerit has warned England that the American side will go on the field with all guns blazing againststar striker Wayne Rooney in the FIFA World Cup.

American defender Jay DeMerit said the US team believes it has a good shot at defeating England on June 12.

“The advantage we have is that we have played against most of the England guys before many times, so there is no intimidation factor,” The Mirror quoted ex-Watford man Jay, who starred in USA’s 3-1 warm-up win against Australia at the weekend, as saying.

Jay disclosed that his team will be going after the formidable Rooney.

“The team know that you try to wind Rooney up. But it’s not as easy to, as people think it is. He is learning to deal with it,” he said.

“But it’s not just Rooney, we have to make everybody’s day difficult,” he added.

He further said he would use his previous experience of playing against Rooney in tackling him on Saturday.

“I have thought about playing him and I’ve been fortunate enough to play against Rooney a few times, so it’s not a brand new thing for me,” he said.

“Rooney will be trying to get in behind and he is very sharp. If we can match him for speed and pick up things in behind us we can make it hard for them,” he added.

Reflecting the American side’ s determination despite being pitted against the mighty English team, Jay said: “We know what they are capable of and we are prepared. There is no point coming to the World Cup unless you go in with an attitude like that.”
