Ross Taylor favoured to become New Zealand captain after World Cup

New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is likely to become the captain of the national team when Daniel Vettori steps aside after the upcoming World Cup.
 
According to the New Zealand Herald, Taylor has the advantage of being the official heir apparent as vice-captain.

Any opportunities, like when Vettori is rested, mean Taylor steps up to gain experience.

He has had limited chances, but did lead New Zealand to the Twenty20 series win over Pakistan last month.

When asked if he wanted the permanent role, Taylor said, “It’s out of my hands who they select, but in the future I would love to do the job.”

“Having the opportunity to lead the team in a few one-dayers and Twenty20s you get a bit of a buzz and a bug for it, hopefully I can show what I’m made of tomorrow,” he added.

Over a 95-match ODI career, Taylor averages 35.77, and as captain he averages 51.
