So, when India's most successful off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took a dig at the Tamil Nadu bowler, Kohli chose to be on his colleague's side. "Already looks like two days old pitch before the 1st bowl is bowled..my predictions match won't go more then 3 and half days.." Harbhajan had tweeted on the opening day of the Indore Test. While replying to Harbhajan's jibe at the wickets on offer to India spinners, Kohli shot back saying you can't have conditions alone, but you need to bowl well. "See obviously, even if it is a turning pitch you have to bowl well. Spin doesn't happen only off the pitch. Spin is about how many revs you throw off the shoulder first. And then the ball will do something off the pitch," he said.

Remembering how the New Zealand spinners had done better than the Indian spinners in the World T20 match in Kolkata, Kohli said: "I quite clearly remember in the World Cup (WT20) after we lost to New Zealand, suddenly their spinners were of quality and we were found out. I don't see anybody talking about it now. The same spinners have played and why they have not been able to pick wickets? It is as simple as that," Kohli said.

He further added: "Our fast bowlers picked up wickets everywhere, nobody complained about it. You can give a guy a cement track to bat on but he should have the mind set to bat on it and it is as simple as that."

Asked if this kind of performance and the team effort put in by the players will give confidence ahead of the England series, Kohli said: "We believe in our skill much more, and not focus on creating atmosphere or conditions which might suit us partially. We just wanted to express ourselves the way we can on a cricket field. We finished two games in four days on perfectly fine Test cricket pitches. That gives us a lot of confidence."
The Delhi batsman scored his second double ton in three months, but did not show the emotions the way he has in the past. The celebrations were subdued, which Kohli said due to disappointment of not getting big scores.

"Everyone is determined and focussed that they perform for the team, do well every time they go to bat. In the past I've made hundreds, but not big ones. So I have always been a bit disappointed with myself that I could not convert them (to big scores), and maybe that I was getting satisfied after reaching the milestones. So, when I come to bat after convincing myself that when I get set... if you don't pay attention to milestones... Yes, the crowd gets excited, the teammates appreciate, but inside you should know what is your mindset. So I was trying to react only that much that would look appreciative," he said.

He also thanked India batting coach Sanjay Bangar for helping him out before the Test "I thanked Sanjay Bangar, he's the batting coach and he gives one the assurance that 'you're playing well, stay in this zone'. This is a big help. Many times, you're in such a position that you are thinking about many things. But there should be some person who could talk with you, share your load and thoughts. He does that on a regular basis."
