Blasting out at MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj lashed out at the captain for Yuvraj Singh’s alleged mistreatment. He said in an interview to mid-day: “"There is great pain in my heart about the way my son is being treated. Why was he dropped from the Indian team? Is it because of the (2014 World T20) final against Sri Lanka? "There are bloody 10,000 cricketers playing for the country. They have not been performing time and again, but why do you have different yardsticks for different people.”

He added: "I have played under the greatest captain — Ashok Mankad — so I know what is going around. After not playing international cricket for two years and then making a comeback is fantastic — hats off to him. The captain expects him to perform and then suddenly drops him to No 7 (against Bangladesh). "What the f**k is happening? What is the captain trying to prove?," asks Yograj, not hiding his ire over Yuvraj's batting position being changed. When shuffling happens too often, questions arise in the mind (of the player) and that this is not cricket. A player wonders whether he is needed or not. The captain has to be very careful in what he is dealing with.”

Continuing the blistering attack, Yograj Singh said that he told Yuvraj not to worry and wondered how Dhoni would perform after being dropped for two years. He added: "If he (Dhoni) does not like him, he should bloody well tell the selectors about it. If he has got anything personal with him, he can take it out, but by doing this, you are destroying the team. Imagine Yuvraj not bowling on such turning wickets where he has claimed 15 wickets in the 2011 World Cup. The world is watching this.”

Yograj Singh has lashed out at Dhoni before. In 2015, after Yuvraj was excluded from the 2015 ICC World Cup squad, he had said: “Dhoni was nothing. He has become a God in cricket just because of media. Media has crowned him as a great which he never deserved.  There was a time when he had nothing but today he sits in front of media and rips off the media persons. He laughs at media who has given him so much hype. He laughs at the Indian people who clap when he scores a run.”

India faces must-win match

A scrappy India will have to lift their game by several notches against an improving Australia when the two fierce rivals clash in a virtual quarterfinal cricket match of the ICC World Twenty20. India, who were the overwhelming favourites going into the tournament, have been far from convincing in the three games they have played so far.

The inaugural edition champions began their campaign with a 47-run crushing defeat against New Zealand before bouncing back with a six-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan. But the home side would have found themselves in a precarious situation if it was not for a self destructive Bangladesh and a brilliant sprint stumping from captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the previous game which they won by a mere one run.

Australia, on the other hand, have been improving with every game and a convincing win against Pakistan in a must-win match here yesterday have prepared them well for another knock-out battle.

James Faulkner and Shane Watson think playing India in their own backyard is the ultimate challenge but the home team also knows they have a daunting task at hand tomorrow.

India, however, will take confidence from the fact that they blanked Australia in Australia in the three-match series in January even though they played against a different squad then.

In any case, another close contest is expected between the two tough rivals at the I S Bindra Stadium which is expected to be fully packed.

India's star-studded batting have been below par starting with the performance of openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, who are yet to fire in the competition.

Star batsman Virat Kohli will be key to India's chances again but the others too need to rise to the occasion.

Suresh Raina scored a 30 against Bangladesh but he is facing the heat alongside Yuvraj Singh, who will have the added pressure of performing at his home ground.

The bowlers have done a decent job especially the spin combine of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
