Despite scoring four consecutive centuries in the MSSA Giles Shield that saw his side reach the final, Yashasvi Jaiswal knew that century No. 5 will be the one that would be remembered the most.

The 14-year-old didn't disappoint. He raised his bat to the skies for the fifth game on the trot, scoring an unbeaten 100 for Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) against Al Barkat (Kurla) on Day One of the final at the Brabourne Stadium here on Tuesday.

Rizvi reached 137/3 in reply to Al Barkat's 78, already up by 59 runs.

Jaiswal, a Class 7 student, went into Tuesday's match scoring 576 in his last four matches – 165 against Anjuman Islam English, 103 against Hansraj Morarji, 171 against Swami Vivekanand and 137 in the semifinals against Shardashram Vidyamandir.

While form was right by Jaiswal's side, it was big-match temperament that he needed the most on the day. "I had to score big today. There's no point in scoring all these runs to get your team to the final and then fail when it matters the most. It would count to nothing," said the 14-year-old who finished runners-up in the MSSA Harris Shield final in February as the Bandra side lost to the same opponents.

"I had scored 20 and a duck in that final. This was my second chance. That too against the same team. There's motivation to beat them," said the left-handed batsman who scored 12 boundaries and a six.

Besides Jaiswal, it was captain Akash Yadav who led from the front by picking up 5/29 as the Kurla side was bundled out for 78. Like Jaiswal, Yadav too had a motivation to do well. "I had taken three wickets in the semifinals. I knew what I had to do today (Tuesday)," said the right-arm medium-pacer.

Brief scores: Al Barkat (Kurla) 78 all out in 33.3 overs (A Yadav 5/29, S Mandlik 3/4, S Bogar 2/27) vs Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) 137/3 in 46 overs (Y Jaiswal 100*)
