Former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Wasim has revealed that batsman Ahmed Shehzad would play a 'key role' as an opener in Pakistan's World Cup campaign.

Wasim insisted that Shehzad is the best-equipped batsman for bouncy pitches, adding that the opener has 'good technique' on the back foot and is 'very strong' on both square sides of the wicket.

He claimed that the extra bounce would help Shehzad to play spinners also as he struggled at times recently against the spinners and rotating the strike, Pak Passion reported. Wasim said that he would like to see Shehzad getting one or two big hundreds in the first few games, claiming that the opener has 'everything it takes' to become an accomplished batsman.

He also claimed that considering the fitness levels of most of Pakistan's bowlers plus the lack of quality in their bowling attack other than Mohammad Irfan, and also the loss of Saeed Ajmal is a major setback to the nation's bowling resources. Wasim feels that with Hafeez unlikely to bowl at the World Cup, the whole combination of the team has been disturbed as they saw in the ODI series against New Zealand.

So, Wasim feels that to do well in the World Cup, it all depends on Pakistan's batting.
