Valve has just introduced a new beta feature, called Steam Broadcasting, allowing gamers to livestream games their friends are playing through the Steam client.

The feature will also allow users to publicly stream their sessions, treading squarely in what was originally Twitch's sole territory. The feature is accessible by opting into the Steam Client Beta, and its goal is to make livestreaming games easier by integrating the tools into the client. Streamers only need to customize who will be able to watch them and whether viewers need to be granted permission first.

There are currently a few drawbacks however. There's no way to invite someone to view your stream if they aren't already on your friend list and there is no form of online storage alloted to save streams for later viewing. You can read the full FAQ list here.
