A new wristband has recently been developed that claims to be able to repel sharks and is available, all for the meagre price of US $80.

Sharkbanz, a rubber band that resembles the FitBit bracelet, uses a magnetic field to repel sharks by disrupting their electro-receptors, which they use to detect movement in the water, News.com.au reported.

Nathan Garrison, co-founder of the new shark-repellent technology, says the technology has been tested on up to 10 species of sharks, including the reef and bull shark but not the great white. He claims the Sharkbanz increases the chance of survival of the casual Australian beachgoer "quite a bit."
