Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have been reportedly named as the top U.S. philanthropists for 2013, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Zuckerberg made the largest public gift in 2013 when he donated 18 million Facebook shares in December, the value of which went up to more than 990 million dollars.
Every year, the Chronicle lists America's top 50 philanthropists and this year, the cut-off figure to make it to the list was said to be 37.5 million dollars, the Verge reported.
A total of 7.7 billion dollars was received as donations from top contributors, while another 2.9 billion dollars included pledges that mostly went to non-profits in the health and science sectors.
Meanwhile, George Mitchell of Galveston, TX acquired the second spot on the list for donating 750 million dollars for clean energy, natural gas sustainability, and water after his death.
