The new generation of Bluetooth technology is here! And it’s called Bluetooth 5. The new technology will raise the bar for wireless connectivity by offering significant overall improvements on all aspects of the current Bluetooth version.

Bluetooth Special Interest Group executive director Mark Powell announced that the new technology will be unveiled soon.

According to Powell, Bluetooth 5 will support “double the range and quadruple the speed of low energy Bluetooth transmissions” when compared to its predecessor.

Another expected feature from the new tech is “advertising packets” which can send information to another device without pairing the devices first. This would be especially useful for connecting Bluetooth speakers.

The technology will help users navigate through infrastructure by offering “beacons and location-based services”.

Bluetooth 5 is expected to be officially announced on June 16th in London.
