Mallika Sarabhai’s poll mudra official now

Taking the lead ahead of seasoned politicians, noted danseuse and social activist Mallika Sarabhai filed her nomination papers for Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat on Thursday. Elsewhere in the state, seven more filed their nomination papers on Thursday, the first day of the nomination filing process.

The 55-year-old danseuse has submitted in the affidavit along with her nomination papers that she owns moveable and immovable assets worth Rs5.15 crore.

A colourful league of around 25 Mallika supporters, mainly activists and artistes of Darpana, lit up the collectorate office on the sultry Thursday afternoon. The vibrant danseuse was dressed in a white kurta, but livened it up with a colourful dupatta.
Mallika’s entourage reached Gandhinagar collectorate around 12.30 pm.

Addressing the waiting mediapersons, she said, “The issues which I want to address relate to the poor, their livelihood, food, women, children’s education, corruption and the resultant problems faced by middle class people and the corporate houses.”

“People in north Gandhinagar, Sanand and other urban areas as well as in corporate world have different issues, but I’ll try to address them all. I have been concentrating on the basic development issues which are national and international in nature for the last 25 years and I’ll raise them further. I have filed my deposit of Rs10,000 from the money collected from poor people who have contributed Rs11 each form their pockets. Justice for all is my motto,” she added.

The affidavit she filed revealed that daughter Anahita is her only dependent, and that she has no criminal cases pending against her. The danseuse also revealed that she had absolutely no liabilities pending. The danseuse owns a flat in Chennai that currently has a market value of Rs1.6 crore and a flat in Usmanpur opposite Darpana Academy with a market value of Rs15.25 lakh

Besides Mallika, seven more candidates filed their nominations on Thursday. They included three independents, two BJP candidates, and one each from NCP and
Congress.

Both the BJP candidates filed their papers from Valsad. They are Dhirubhai Chaganbhai Patel, whose candidature was  officially announced by BJP, and Naresh Maganbhai Patel.

The nomination process will continue till April 9, barring on April 3, due to public holiday on account of Ramnavami.
