Nothing can be more perturbing than losing your credit card and seeing someone else spend your hard-earned money recklessly. Amit Chabaria, a textile trader and resident of Sanskar apartment, SG highway, was in a state of shock when he received a message on Sunday notifying that goods worth Rs5,110 were purchased by using his credit card which he lost a day before.

Chabaria was at Ambaji temple at Navrangpura on Saturday night when someone broke into his car parked near Mount Carmel School and fled with his credit card, laptop and other valuables.

“When I returned from the temple, I found the window panes of my car broken and laptop, credit card and other valuables missing,” said Chabaria, who lodged a complaint with the Navarangpura police on Saturday itself.

However, on Sunday afternoon he received a message that apprised him of the amount deducted from his credit card account. He approached the Navarangpura police once again to prevent further misuse of his card, but no action was taken in this regard.

Later, Chabaria took the help of cyber experts and learnt that one Praksh Chara had purchased ration items like wheat, sugar, edible oil and other goods from Big Bazaar at Raipur.

This time Chabaria filed a complaint with the Kagdapith police, who nabbed Chara after identifying him with the help of close circuit television footage. However, Chara alleged that the credit card was given to him by his friend Bablu.

A source said that Chara, a resident of Naroda area, was suffering from a financial crunch as the video business he was earlier running was not yielding substantial profits. He is married, has a son and was finding it difficult to support his family, added the source.

The Kagdapith police have handed over Chara’s custody to Navrangpura police and a case of cheating has been lodged against him in this connection. When contacted senior PI at Navrangpura police station CH Chaudhary was not available for comment.
