For the second consecutive year, a student from IIT Bombay (IIT-B) not just managed to crack CAT but also scored a perfect 100. It was no surprise when Shantanu Gangal gave “full credit” to IIT-B for his success in his first attempt

“A large chunk of the CAT paper had maths and logic; hence my studies at IIT-B helped me tremendously,,” said Gangal, a final year student of Computer Science and Engineering (dual degree) at IIT Bombay.

Last year, IITian Gourav Bhattacharya had scored also 100 percentile in CAT. As for 22-year-old Gangal, congratulatory calls are pouring in. He has also received calls from all seven Indian Institutes of Management. “I knew I would do well, but I wasn’t expecting to score 100 percentile in CAT,” he said.

Born and brought up in Thane, Gangal said that if given a choice, he would like to study in IIM Ahmedabad because of its proximity to Mumbai. “Also it’s considered to be the best.”

While the first hurdle is over, Gangal is now gearing up for the group discussion and personal interview.  “I am part of the culture club at IIT-B and am part of the debating team. I am considered one of best and I hope to use this skill.”

Since most IIMs also look at the candidate’s work experience, Gangal is hoping that his performance and other attributes will “offset” his zero work experience.
