'Budding sportspersons to get world class training'

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said her government would provide world-class training to students and budding sportspersons to enable them to perform effectively at the Commonwealth Games and bring glory to the city.
    
"There will not be a dearth of funds for this purpose," Dikshit said after unfurling the National Flag on the 62nd anniversary of the Independence Day at a state level function here.
    
She also honoured 212 meritorious students of government schools who scored 90 per cent and above in their CBSE examinations.
    
Complementing the role of teachers and educational administrators in preparing students and imparting quality education to them, Dikshit said the government schools were today racing ahead of well-established public schools.
    
"The education department has taken certain initiatives, which has brought a sea change in education scenario," she added.
    
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to highlight the "benefits" of the Indo-US Nuclear Deal, saying that it "would go a long way in providing adequate Nuclear Power and taking our nation much ahead among the super powers.
    
It would also accelerate the pace of development and progress, she added.
