PERTH: Australian opener Matthew Hayden is disappointed for not being able to recover in time for the Perth Test, beginning at WACA here from Wednesday.
Hayden, who is nursing a hamstring tendon injury, said he would miss the important match as the Aussies chase a record breaking 17th Test win in a row.
"I am very disappointed about missing this Test match because it's going to be so special," Hayden was quoted as saying by the 'Courier Mail.'
"But from my point of view, I really couldn't look the skipper in the eyes and say I was going to be fully fit," he said.
Meanwhile, Hayden's replacement Chris Rogers is elated that he will make his Test debut against India.
"I thought maybe I missed the boat," Rogers said.
"But I couldn't script it better now. To play in front of your home crowd is something you will always remember.
"It's something I've been dreaming about for a long time. I hope I do the baggy green proud," he said.
