KOLKATA: Even as the Tatas unveiled their Rs one lakh car in Delhi, West Bengal's main opposition Trinamool Congress on Thursday threatened to stall its manufacture at Singur plant.

''Until farmers get back their land forcibly acquired for the Tata Motors small car plant at Singur, we will not allow the company to manufacture cars there,'' Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Partha Chatterjee said here.

Chatterjee warned ''if pressure is put, there will be trouble.''

Alleging that 347 acre was forcibly acquired by the Left Front government to enable Tata Motors to set up the plant, he said ''the matter is still sub judice.''

''We are warning Ratan Tata that he should not dare to go to the Tata Motors Singur plant without returning land to farmers who were forced to part with it,'' he said.

The TC leader also threatend to launch a movement but did not elaborate, saying 'time will reveal its form'.

He alleged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had always tried to crush their movement with the help of guns and the police. "But we will not stop our movement.''

Chatterjee claimed Ratan Tata had commented sarcastically on the movement against forcible acquisition of farmland.

Alleging that Tata had been commenting 'like a CPI(M) politburo member', he said ''it is disrespectful to the farmers' movement as also people of West Bengal and intellectuals who are supporting them. We demand an explanation from Ratan Tata.''

''Let the Tatas go elsewhere, leaving farmland in Singur to farmers,'' the TC leader said.

Chatterjee also claimed the car launched in Delhi was probably manufactured in Maharashtra.
