Luxury flows supreme

Vijay Mallya is just one of them. There are 99 others who will host their parties on luxury yachts off the Gateway of India, as the New Year will float in serenely for the revellers.

The yachts of various kinds — motor, classics, masted, pleasure boats — are either owned by the super-rich or by companies like Mumbai Boat Show Pvt Ltd and Club Privada that give these yachts on hire for parties. On the last day of this year, the yacht party crowd plans to start early, say around 6 pm, and go on till wee hours of January 1.

Minus a marina — or parking bay for these luxury boats, the yachts are berthed in the middle of the sea. Hence, the guests, and for that matter even the hosts, will first have to take a catamaran or a vessel to reach their yachts.
