MUMBAI: Tata Group’s Trent Ltd has entered into a 5-year master franchise agreement with Italian premium apparel retailer Benetton Group to operate, promote and market the latter’s Sisley brand in the country.
Noel Tata, chairman, Trent Ltd, said: “We will certainly be entering into similar arrangements with another 2-3 international brands in the coming years to expand our offerings in this product category.”
Trent is looking at pumping in around Rs 50 crore to set up the Sisley store network in India. The entire funding will be through internal resources.
Trent plans to open 20-30 Sisley stores in the coming 5-7 years. These will be stand-alone stores to be housed in upcoming malls and high street locations that offer a shopping environment conducive for retailing premium lifestyle apparels.
“The idea is to expand in the key metros of the country like New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore to start with. These will be followed by establishing presence in the balance metros at a later stage,” said Tata.
Benetton has been operating three Sisley stores — launched as a pilot project in the National Capital sometime last year. “The existing stores will now be taken over by Trent and it will be officially responsible for expanding the Sisley retail network in the Indian market,” said Alessandro Benetton, executive deputy chairman of Benetton Group.
Sisley currently has more than 900 stores across the world. The brand offers collections that are distinguished by their strong fashion content and reflect the latest trends of the season.
To be priced at Rs 2,500 and above, Sisley will offer a wide choice of clothes for men and women. This winter, Sisley is expected to launch a range called Sisley Limited Edition.
