JAMMU: An umbrella organisation of Kashmiri Pandits on Sunday demanded a CBI probe into an alleged land grabbing case by a politically-connected person in Sopore town of Baramulla district.

"We have lost faith in crime branch of state police, which joined hands with a politically connected land grabber depriving a poor Kashmiri Pandit lady of her land worth Rs Rs 2.5 crore in the heart of Sopore town," All Party Migrant Coordination Committee chairman Vinood Pandit told here.

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad should order a CBI probe into her case in which she claimed that her property was usurped by a man in Sopore using a fraudulent power of attorney, he said.

Pandit was flanked by president of Jammu and Kashmir National Democratic Party A K Dewani, victim Vijaya Bindroo and Kashmiri Pandit Trade Union head Vijay Chicken.

They demanded probe into other land grabbing cases of Kashmiri Pandits in valley.

"I appeal to the Chief Minister, who has waged a war against corruption to order a CBI probe into my case," Vijaya Bindroo said.

She said one Sayed Mohammad Fareed who has good connection with a Union Minister and a legislator of Kulgam district hadusurped her land measuring nearly one acre using a fraudulent power of attorney from her bed-ridden husband.

"The crime branch headed by Inspector General and two SSPs has helped the land grabber from time to time," she alleged.

"Shockingly the report given by the Shimla laboratory, which said that documents are false as the signature has been forged, was in contradiction with the earlier report given by the forensic science laboratory at Srinagar. This has proved that there is something fishy," she added.

Despite evidence that came up during investigation, crime branch IG Dilbagh Singh in consultation with SSP Sunilo Sharma closed the case favouring the land grabber, she alleged.

Chairman of the coordination committee Pandit while appealing to the Chief Minister to intervene personally, said the government should act upon their demand within 15 days or else they may consider meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil on the issue.

We also demand suspension of the IGP and two SSPs and a probe by a retired judge into their involvement in the case should be ordered, they said.
