Sonia will take the final decision: Rau

The All India Congress Committee, under the directives of high command has stepped in to look into the Wakf Board land scam. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prabha Rau, on Thursday said party high command (Sonia Gandhi) will take a final decision.

Rau said, “ I have spoken to AICC general secretary incharge of Maharashtra, Margaret Alva. It is for the high command to take the final decision.”

The state minister for animal husbandry and dairy development Anees Ahmed has accused senior Congress member of legislature council (MLC) M A Aziz of selling Wakf board land for prominent state politicians and industrialists illegally at throw away price. In retaliation Aziz denied the charge and questioned Ahmed’s right to constitute an inquiry.

Sources indicated that AICC general secretary Ahmed Patel is monitoring the issue. He has already spoken with Deshmukh. Anees Ahmed decision to name of chief minister’s brother Dilip Deshmukh in the land scam has given a new twist to the Wakf controversy.

Incidentally, what makes the matter piquant is that any action taken against Anees by state Congress or chief minister could hurt the sentiments of the minorities. On the other hand even Aziz belongs to minorities.

Insiders indicate that Anees by raking up the is trying to re-assert his position before the next cabinet reshuffle.

However close aide of Anees said, “He was exposing the mismanagement within the Wakf Board by an individual. He had no other agenda.” But some within the Wakf Board termed the Anees-Aziz verbal dual as a battle to control the Board.”
