NRI, foreigner arrested in fake credit card racket

NEW DELHI: A non-resident Indian (NRI) and a foreigner were arrested for allegedly cheating people of millions of rupees here, police said on Friday.

Jaspal Singh and his accomplice Thong Yuen Cheong, who hail from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, were arrested Thursday in south Delhi for allegedly duping people in the city by using cloned credit cards.

The incident came to light when Singh footed a bill of Rs.33,000 by a cloned credit card at Ansal Plaza, a shopping hub in south Delhi.

According to police, the duo was arrested after a shop-owner raised an alarm after comparing the identification papers submitted by Singh.

The ICICI Bank had recently circulated an alert on the accused, who had duped several merchants by using the same cloned credit cards, police said.

"During investigations, it was revealed that in the past three years, the two made purchases running into million of rupees by using cloned credit cards," deputy commissioner of police (south Delhi) Anil Shukla said.  

The police have also recovered 20 cloned credit cards from the possession of the duo.
