NEW DELHI: A Delhi Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of two co-accused of kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi in a multi-crore fake stamp paper case.

"The amount of recoveries made at the instance of the petitioners (Mohsin Azimullah and Mansoor Ahmed) clearly shows their involvement in the conspiracy to print and sell fake stamps", said Special CBI Judge Dinesh Dayal while dismissing their bail plea.

The duo, presently lodged in Tihar jail since their arrest in 2002, had sought bail on grounds that their alleged roles in the case was minimal and that they were mere employees at Telgi's firm having no knowledge that the stamp papers were fake.

Rejecting the contention of the accused that they should be given treatment similar to that of co-accused G Vetrival Sami, who was given bail despite being charged of similar offences, the court said that their association with Telgi seemed to be greater than Sami.

"It appears that their association with main accused Abdul Karim Telgi and Mohammad Asif was of a greater degree than the association of accused G Vetrival Sami", it said.

As per the CBI, counterfeit stamp papers with a face value of Rs 219 crores were seized from several outlets and godowns of M/s Citi Enterprises, Sharp Enterprises and Royal Services, owned by Telgi.

The CBI had alleged that accused Mansoor and Mohsin were involved in several fake stamp paper cases and were connected to Telgi's firm for printing and distributing fake stamp papers.

The offices of three firms dealing in fake stamp papers were located in Green Park, Aantariksh Bhavan in Greater Kailash and Old Rajinder Nagar in the capital, the probe agency said.

Telgi's main associate Mohammed Asif was arrested after police recovered fake stamp papers with face value of Rs 5.5 lahks allegedly from his possession in Hauz Khas area here in 2002. Two years later the case was transferred to the CBI.

Besides Telgi and Asif, the CBI had arrested 10 others including Tavrej Karim Telgi, Sekhar Jhanvekar and Promod Jhanvekar, who are lodged in Yerrawada jail in Pune.
