INDORE (MP): In the first arrests in the Samjhauta Express blasts, police on Wednesday took into custody two suspects who had allegedly provided suitcase covers to the perpetrators of the terror attack near Panipat that killed 68.

Huzaifa, the owner of the Abhinandan Bag Centre, and shop manager Poonam Singh Thakur were arrested by the Haryana police, who claimed that the duo had supplied covers for the suitcases in which the explosives were kept.

Police sources said they had established that the covers of the suitcase in which the bombs were planted were stitched by the duo.

The two suspects were being questioned by a team of Haryana police who produced them in a local court late on Tuesday evening for transit remands to take them to Panipat.

However, it was not yet established whether the 'Kodak brand' 24-inch suitcases were purchased from here. The inferior quality suitcases, costing about Rs200, are supplied by a Mumbai-based firm.

Police sources said Huziafa and Thakur were not cooperating in the probe and were unable to provide the sales records to the probing team.

The investigators were unable to establish whether plastic bottles used in the blasts were procured from the city. The bottles of 'Sourabh Plastic' brand are manufactured by a Mumbai-based firm and distributed at places in the radius of 500 km from the megapolis, the sources said.

The investigating team also questioned three-four circuit makers from the city but were unable to establish whether circuits used in the bombs were purchased here.

Inspector General, Indore Range, Rajendra Kumar confirmed that the probe team has taken away the arrested persons along with them.

A team of Haryana police officials is understood to have visited Allahabad to verify details that have emerged during the investigation into the blasts.

Mohammad Zakir, a victim of the blasts hailing from Bijnore admitted in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, was also taken to Panipat for 'helping' in the investigation.
