MUMBAI: Two persons were arrested while allegedly trying to smuggle in 211 grams of charas inside the high security Arthur Road Jail here on Saturday.

Jalil Shaikh (30) and Rahim Shaikh (20) used to work as casual labourers for the Public Works Department and were caught in possession of the drugs during routine physical frisking before entering the jail premises in the morning, a senior official attached to the NM Joshi Marg police station said.

The duo used to reside in a slum in suburban Santacruz and the police are still ascertaining the source of the contraband and who inside the jail would consume it.

Apart from the 1993 serial bomb blasts accused, Arthur Road Jail also houses many dreaded criminals from various gangs of the Mumbai underworld.
