PANAJI: Two Australians of Indian origin were arrested on Monday in Goa on charges of murdering a waiter at a beachside eatery, a senior police official said.

The suspects were identified as 29-year-old Amardeep Singh and Jaswinder Singh, 26, both from Melbourne.

The police official said the pair arrived in Goa for a holiday on Friday, when the murder was committed.

"After an initial brawl both went away and returned later in the night and stabbed the waiter in the back," police superintendent DK Sawant said, adding the pair were accountancy students at the University of Melbourne.

"We did not know their names or nationality but we had a suspicion that they were non-resident Indians and so we laid a trap at the airport," Sawant said.
