WASHINGTON: The New York-headquartered $24 billion investment firm of Goldman Sachs is up in arms against a small-time entrepreneur in the Netherlands who has named his site goldmansex.com.

Goldman Sachs filed a complaint to the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) around two weeks ago saying that the material on goldmansex.com would cause confusion as it contained links to objectionable adult material.

Goldmansex.com is a directory of night clubs and strip joints the world over, and charges money from potential customers to get their establishment listed on its site. It is primarily aimed at business travellers and its motto is “Leisure After Business.”

While Goldman Sachs refuses to say anything publicly about its complaint, DNA spoke to Rob Muller, the owner of goldmansex.com. “They sent me an email a few weeks ago,” he said.

“I received it on my Blackberry when I was on my speedboat. They requested me to stop using the domain name since if would violate their trademark rights. My attorney asked for further information, but we never received a response. The next thing that happened was that we received the NAF paper by email.”

Cases like these are termed cybersquatting, when an individual or a firm registers a domain name of another reputed or famous firm only to sell it later at a high price.
