The deteriorating condition of 76-year-old anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare as he enters the seventh day of indefinite fast has prompted Team Anna members to keep ready a temporary ICU at the Yadavbaba Temple in Ralegan Siddhi.
Citing the veteran Gandhian’s falling health, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has appealed to all political parties to pass the Lokpal Bill in both the houses of Parliament by Wednesday evening.
Bedi and other Team Anna members, including Vishwambhar Choudhari, Commander Vishwanath, Datta Awari, Ralegan Sarpanch Jaishing Mapari, Suresh Pathare and Ganaptrao Auti are worried about Anna’s health.
Anna had to be brought to the pandal with the help of volunteers on Monday morning after the daily medical check-up.
The doctors announced at 11 am that Anna has lost 200 gms of weight in the past 24 hours and the total weight loss since last Tuesday is 4.3 kg. Doctors announced that even though blood pressure and heart beats as well as other parameters were stable, Anna was feeling weakness to a great extent.
When Anna told the media that he was alright and would continue his fast till the bill is passed, Bedi intervened and said, “Doctors are telling us that Anna’s kidney could get affected in a day or two which can put him in the danger zone. Even though he is brave, we have to go by the doctors’ report. I don’t think Anna would be able to stretch it after Wednesday.”
Anna said that weight loss was obvious as the fast has entered its seventh day. He said that there were phone calls from many well-wishers requesting him to yield to their request of doing away with the fast but he was determined to carry it on till the bill is passed.
Bedi told the media that she was to leave for Delhi but Choudhari informed her about Anna’s health and told her that they cannot leave Anna alone. She said that she has cancelled her Delhi plan and returned back to Ralegan Siddhi to be with Anna.
Chowdhary said the Anna’s health has deteriorated and his condition that was seen on the ninth day during the Ramleela Maidan fast in Delhi was seen on the seventh day here because of the leader’s age.
