In a shocking incident, the mother of a 12-year-old girl sold her daughter to a ‘kala kendra’ (a place where dancers perform in front of an audience for money) for Rs1 lakh. To add to the tragedy, she was repeatedly raped by five men during her stay with the dance troupes.
The incident unfolded when the girl managed to escape from the kendra on Sunday afternoon. The police said that the girl was told that she is being taken to learn dance at a local tamasha group. Following which, the girl was brought to Sablewadi village in Khed taluka. Police inspector Sushil Kadam of Chakan police station said, “Initially, the girl was raped by two persons at the kendra. Thereafter, she was taken to Chafula where she was repeatedly raped by three persons for two days. Two days ago, the girl was taken back to Sablewadi kendra. On Sunday, she took Rs100 from one of the pimps saying that she wanted to buy a gown from Chakan. However, she boarded a bus and came to Pune station. After reaching the station, she called one Syrus Shaikh and went to Bund Garden police station.”
The Bund Garden police have registered a case against seven persons and transferred the case to Chakan police station.
