The Cyber Crime Cell (CCC) of Pune police have arrested a person who was working as the car driver for a private firm for allegedly stealing a credit card of a German national and doing a shopping of Rs3.03 lakh.
The incident took place when the foreigner visited Pune for business purpose in October.
The arrested driver has been identified as Raju Baburav Walunj (34) of Sambhajinagar, Dhankavdi.
Walunj bought articles from a mall, mobile shoppe and jewellery shops using the credit card but no one inquired about the card.
Even as the German national left the country without filing a complaint in October, Amol Raghunath Bari (37), the manager of the firm where he had visited, lodged a complaint with Vishrambaug police station.
Speaking to dna, senior police inspector Sushma Chavan of CCC said, “We got an application in this regard in October. Initially, we did not get any clue because of no CCTV footage from any shops. Finally, we got the international mobile station equipment identity (IMEI) number of the mobile that Walunj had purchased and we arrested him from his house.”
Chavan said that after stealing the credit card, Waluj left the firm and did odd jobs for a living.
“Walunj is married and staying with wife and two children in Dhankavdi for the past couple of years. He sold the booty and paid his debtors. He was produced before the court on Tuesday and granted police custody for two days,” Chavan said.
The CCC has slapped relevant sections of IPC, 1860 and IT Act against Walunj.
