Pune: Samarth police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against a local builder in connection with the suicide of rickshaw driver last week. Family members had claimed that the rickshaw driver took the extreme step as Asif Hanif Khan, the builder, was delaying the possession of a flat promised to him in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme.

Rajesh Thakur had allegedly committed suicide on June 21 following which his family members had gathered in a police station demanding action against Khan, the builder of Golden Construction.
Sub-inspector VL Chavan, who is investigating the case, said, “Khan is still at large and his office is shut. Our team is searching for him.”
Khan signed agreements in 2005 with more than 150 residents of the area under the SRA scheme stating that every family will get two flats.
