Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan returned home today to a warm welcome from cheering fans, after his controversial trip to the US where the actor was detained and questioned at an airport for two hours.

There was complete chaos at the Santa Cruz airport where Khan's fans had gathered to welcome him back after his three-day-trip. Khan, 43, was expected to speak to the waiting media but instead drove straight to his Bandra residence from the airport.

The actor, who is popularly known as King Khan, had gone to the US for the South Asian Independence Day Carnival in Houston and Chicago, but was detained at the Newark airport for questioning. The incident had caused a furore in India, with the government stating that the issue will be taken up with the US.

After his initial outburst saying that he was detained because he was a Muslin, Khan had sought to play down the incident saying, "I think it is a procedure that needs to be followed, but it was unfortunate." He had also requested "everyone" back home not to take the issue "further than it should be".

The actor will next be seen in the much hyped film 'My Name is Khan' which ironically revolves around a Muslim man and his experiences in a post 9/11 America.
