Acting on a complaint by MNS chief Raj Thackeray, the cyber crime cell of the Mumbai crime branch blocked fake Facebook accounts of his daughter Urvashi and son Amit. Thackeray approached the police after party members brought to his notice that there were fake accounts of his children on the social networking site.

Police said that they are yet to trace the IP (Internet Protocol) address to ascertain who made the fake accounts. “We have blocked the accounts on the social networking site as soon as we were informed,” a crime branch officer said.

It was the objectionable content posted on the accounts about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and even Bal Thackeray and his party that irked MNS members.

The Mumbai crime branch has sent a request to Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) about the fake accounts on the social networking site to help them in tracing the IP addresses of the computers on which the accounts were made. In cases like these, the cyber crime cell first approaches the service provider requesting them to block the site. If that does not help, they approach CERT and ask them to block objectionable accounts.
