With fears of radiation levels rising in Japan, Indian info-tech companies, including those based in Pune, have started relocating their employees from Japan.

Pune-based Zensar Technologies has already shifted its 20-odd employees who were working on a temporary project.
Ganesh Natarajan, vice-chairman and CEO, Zensar Technologies, told DNA that 20 of its employees working on a temporary project have returned safely.

“We have eight permanent Indian employees in Japan and we have asked them to return. Our working model is that we employ people from the particular country we are located to carry out our projects from. We have around 35 employees in Tokyo, mostly Japanese, whose safety we are ensuring,” he said.

Some of the projects that can be shifted to India have already been shifted, he added.

“We are closely watching the situation and some of the projects in Japan may be delayed, a situation we cannot avoid,” he said.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) that has a presence in Pune has also started relocating its employees in Japan. “We have around 200 employees in Japan and we are closely monitoring the situation. We are ready to relocate our Indian employees and their families back to India. Apart from this, we are ensuring the safety of our local Japanese employees,” a TCS spokesperson said.
Infosys Technologies said it is relocating its employees and their families who have expressed a desire to return. “We have around 300 Indian employees in three centres in Japan and all of them are safe. We will continue to support our clients locally and from offshore locations till the situation stabilises,” said a senior official from Infosys.

Wipro, which has BPO operations in Okinawa, sales and development organisations in Yokohama and a sales office in Tokyo, is also relocating its employees.
