The Shivajinagar police on Friday night booked senior police inspector, Dhananjay Dhumal and three constables attached to the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of the Pune police and two partners of a finance firm for allegedly extorting a landscape architect. The suspects were allegedly threatening to implicate him in fake terror cases.

The consultant, Ajay Shamkant Choudhary, filed a private complaint in the district court seeking relief from the suspects. Additional chief judicial magistrate, VK Yawalkar, directed the Shivajinagar police to file a complaint against the suspects and investigate the matter.

The two suspects, who are partners of RS Finance, the firm involved in the case, have been identified as Sudhakar Dnyandeo Bhujbal (45) of Mukundnagar and Bipin Pravin Rane (36) of Kusalkar Road.

According to the complaint filed before the court, Choudhary in June 2009 obtained a loan of Rs10 lakh from RS Finance by mortgaging a flat owned by him. He paid the entire amount along with interest before December 7, 2010. However, the firm did not issue a release deed in his favour.

In October and November this year, Bhujbal and Rane allegedly called up Choudhary for a meeting and asked for Rs15 lakh more for release of the flat. The complainant was warned of dire consequences and that he would be implicated in a false case of terror by the Pune ATS.

On November 2, three constables attached to the ATS were sent by Dhumal to Choudhary's residence, but he was not there. He went to the ATS office in Shivajinagar in the evening. There, Dhumal allegedly told Choudhary he was involved in terrorist activities and linked to dons, Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan and Dawood. He asked Choudhary to pay Rs15 lakh to Rane and Bhujbal or else he would be falsely implicated in terrorist activities.

On November 7, Dhumal asked him to come to the ATS office and allegedly asked him to pay Rs15 lakh to the Bhujbal and Rane.
