The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended the registration of Patil Construction (PC), a well-known contracting company, due to alleged delay in completion of projects allocated to it.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended the registration of Patil Construction (PC), a well-known contracting company, due to alleged delay in completion of projects allocated to it. But the contractor has threatened to challenge the PMC order in court.
The project manager of PC, Santosh Swami, told reporters that the company has completed all the projects it has undertaken, adding that where there were delays, or where projects could not be completed, it was the PMC that had failed to provide the land.
Swami said the PMC passed the order without giving PC an opportunity to explain. “The company will send a notice to the civic body. If the PMC does not withdraw its decision, then we will move court against the PMC order,” he said.
Recently, corporators cutting across party lines to raise the matter of non-completion of projects by major contracting companies such as MB Patil Construction, PC and Mohanlal Mathrani Construction. The corporators had demanded action against the contractors in the general body meeting.
Municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak had assured the corporators of an inquiry into the matter and action, if needed. Additional municipal commissioner Anupkumar Yadav recently passed an order against these contractors and presented a report to the standing committee.
While PC has won tenders of major road works in the city, valued at more than Rs177 crore, MB Patil Construction has won tenders of important roads like Paud Road, valued at Rs107 crore.
PC was also awarded the storm water drainage project in Baner, Vadgaon Sheri and Vadgaon Budruk areas, totalling Rs126 crore. The contractor is also working on the development of Vitthalwadi-Pune-Mumbai bypass and Mundhwa bypass. MB Patil Construction and PC are sister concerns.
Yadav noted in the order that the municipal commissioner had passed an order to suspend the registration of PC for a year, during which the company would not be able to file tenders. MB Patil Construction has been ordered to complete its projects within 3 months.
