Mother-daughter duo hammered to death by unidentified

A senior citizen and her daughter were allegedly hammered to death in their residence in suburban Malad, police today said.

The deceased, identified as Anthonita Astris (65) and her daughter Preeti Varghese (40), were badly assaulted by unidentified persons with an iron rod late last night at their residence in Malwani in Malad, police said.

"Preeti's husband Anil was at the family-owned grocery shop nearby, and the neighbours noticed the bodies lying in a pool of blood," R Andhale, senior police inspector said.

Both the ladies were hit on their head and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead.

Andhale said investigations are on to ascertain the motive behind the gruesome murder and a few people have been questioned.
