Targetting the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray today said the dropping of the stringent provisions of MCOCA by a court against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and other accused in Malegaon blasts case was a "slap" on the ruling coalition.

"It is rare for us to say that truth always prevails as far as courts are concerned. But this verdict shows that there is still justice," Thackeray said, adding there was an attempt to dub Hindus as terrorists in connection with the Malegaon blasts. He made these comments in an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana.

In a reprieve to  Lt Col S P Purohit and nine other accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, a special court in Mumbai last Friday dropped provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) invoked against them saying none are part of an organised crime syndicate.

In a renewed but veiled attack on slain ATS head Hemant Karkare, Thackeray also said the ATS probed the Malegaon blast case as if "they were political workers" of then home minister R R Patil of NCP.

"There was an attempt to dub Hindus as terrorists in the Malegaon blast case. ATS people held daily press briefings and behaved as if they spearheaded the secular movement," Thackeray said, without naming Karkare killed in 26/11 attack.

"But the public is not stupid and knows the reality. Those who dubbed Hindus as terrorists had to suffer. NCP's R R Patil lost the home minister's post due to Islamic terrorists, Sharad Pawar's ambition of becoming the prime minister crashed and Karkare became a victim of Islamic terrorism," he said.

Thackeray had earlier too targeted Karkare alleging that ATS worked under political pressure while probing the blast in which some radical Hinduoutfits had come under scanner.
