Police officials from the LT marg police station are on the lookout for a 26-year-old employee of a jewellery making unit in Zaveri Bazar who has allegedly fled with 23kg of gold bars worth around Rs5 crore.

The accused, Paresh Rawal, worked for Dev Krupa Jewellers since the past 10 months and his job was to bring gold bars from clients from all over the country and once ornaments were made out of them, to ship them back to the client.

Rawal was sent to Delhi to bring 23kg of gold bars from a client. He left on December 5, and was to board the August Kranti Express and reach Mumbai on December 7.

According to the complainant, Nathalal Gandhi, Rawal boarded the train as informed to him by the client in Delhi. Gandhi waited for Rawal for two days and tried calling him several times on his cell phone, which was switched off. Gandhi thought that as he was travelling, there could be network problems, but eventually approached the police.

Police inspector Shrikant Desai from LT Marg police station said, "Teams have been sent to various places where Rawal might have gone. His mobile phone is also being traced. If he switches it on, it will be easy to trace his exact location."

He added, "People known to him are also being questioned. These include his cousins and friends who work with the same jewellery unit and few other units located in Zaveri Bazar."

It has also come to light that Gandhi was going to accompany Rawal to bring the consignment but Rawal convinced him to let him go alone.

Rawal, a native of Rajasthan, was hired by Gandhi on reference of his cousins who also work for Gandhi since past few years and are trusted employees. Within the span of 10 months, Rawal had brought and delivered back several huge gold consignments and had won Gandhi’s trust because of which he was sent alone this time.

Other than this, the police also suspecting that as Rawal was carrying a huge consignment of gold there could be chances that he was robbed or some untoward incident could have occurred, but the investigation at present is focussed on tracing him.
