The police have arrested the husband of the woman whose decomposed body was found in a drain at Ghatkopar on July 16.

The accused, Mohammed Ismail Hadis,35, along with his father, was detained by the Uttar Pradesh police. They will be brought to Mumbai and booked under relevant sections of the IPC.

Hadis allegedly suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with another man, Mubarak, in Mumbai. When he told his father about it, his father instigated him to kill his wife.

On questioning, Hadis reportedly told Mumbai police that he first hit Jugra on her head with a brick before strangling her to death at Azad Nagar in Ghatkopar on July 15. He then threw her body into a nearby drain, after which he left for his hometown in Uttar Pradesh along with their son Murtuza by train.

Jugra’s brother, Allahuddin Manihar said, “When my sister last visited, she told me about the mental torture her husband was subjecting her to. She also told me that her husband and father-in-law had threatened to kill her.”

Initially, the police had registered a case of accidental death. However, Jugra’s decomposed body was identified by her brother on Thursday afternoon, after which it was treated as murder.
