Enough seats for all: Maharashtra education department

The merit lists for junior colleges admission are due on Friday but students need not panic as there are enough seats for everyone, according to the education department.

According to information provided by deputy director of education’s office —there were 2,04,142 applications out of which 12,877 students have already been admitted under the bifocal rounds. But there are 2,48,396 seats that are still vacant.
“Now, after the bifocal admissions there are 35,366 surrendered seats. This is just an addition to the available seats, giving ample of seats for the general stream admissions”, said an official from the deputy director’s office.
Dr TA Shivare, principal, Hinduja College said, “The cut-offs are likely to be 5% higher than last year. Students need not be fussy about their junior college as getting admission is important. You can change your college later too.”
An official from the deputy director’s office said, “There are better chances of students getting their college of choice. However, provisional admission has to be taken to be eligible for the single betterment chance that general stream students have.”
Dr Kirti Narain, principal of Jai Hind College said, “It is just the mindset of students. All colleges are same. After scoring well in HSC, they can shift to a college of their choice for degree. There are professional courses related to other streams as well, so students who are not satisfied with their junior college allotment can switch later.”
