The Bombay high court has expressed concern over the online fraud schemes that dupe people. The court asked the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) to develop a strategy to tackle such
offences.

A division bench of justices Ranjana Desai and RV More was hearing PILs against the frauds by Speak Asia and the City Limouzine group. Justice Ranjana Desai remarked: “There has to be some strategy to probe such offences where people are lured into investing money by some websites and are then duped. We want the police to state what efforts will be taken.”

The court has asked the EOW to develop a strategy and file the affidavit within two weeks. Justice Desai said: “Awareness should also be created among people so that no one invests their money in such fraud schemes.”

Public prosecutor Pandurang Pol informed the court that the EOW has registered an FIR and five persons have been arrested in connection with the scam.
