A 33-year-old man, who allegedly murdered a Delhi Police officer, was caught by the JJ Marg police on Friday morning.

The man, a native of Uttar Pradesh, has been identified as Raees Rahimtullah Khan. He is an autorickshaw driver.

A team of officers patrolling near Teli Mohalla area late on
Thursday night got suspicious when they saw Khan walking in haste.

“When we asked him what he was doing walking alone at 3 am, he got very nervous,” said assistant inspector Bandudada Bansode. “We got suspicious because he started stammering, and his answers were unsatisfactory.”

Khan was then brought to the JJ Marg police station. “He then told us he had killed a traffic policeman in Khajura Khas, Delhi, earlier this year,” sub-inspector Bhaskar Dhanavade said, adding that the JJ Marg police then immediately informed the Khajura Khas police about Khan.

“They confirmed that they had registered a case against him. Khan’s custody has now been handed over to the police station concerned,” Dhanavade said.

“It has been learnt that apart from the murder case, Khan also has two assault cases registered against him,” said senior inspector Khanderao Patil.
