The local civic body on Thursday demolished an elevator at the Wankhede Stadium here built for industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family members.

"BMC started the demolition of the illegal lift at Wankhede Stadium at around 4 pm. Demolition work was initiated as no permission had been taken from the civic body for constructing the lift," Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) PRO Vijay Khabale told PTI.

Ambani, who owns IPL outfit Mumbai Indians, often visits the stadium in South Mumbai to watch matches along with his family members.

He has bought three corporate boxes in the stadium from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) at a rate of Rs 5 crore each. The elevator was being used by Ambani and his family members to reach the corporate boxes, MCA sources said.

MCA had given permission to Ambani-led Reliance Industries, when they sought to have an elevator, subject to they getting the necessary clearance from civic authorities, the sources told PTI.
