62-year-old woman found murdered in Kothrud flat

A 62-year-old woman was murdered at her residence in Kothrud on Tuesday evening. The police suspect robbery to be the motive for the crime.

The police identified the victim as Shobha Laxmikant Selarka (62),  resident of Sarita Housing Society, near Lodha petrol pump in Kothrud. They hail from Akola.

The police said the attack was so brutal that the victim’s skull was cracked.

Deputy commissioner of police (crime), Rajendra Bansode told DNA, “The victim resided on the third floor of the building in a 1BHK apartment along with her husband, son Uday who is into share trading and is out station, daughter-in-law and a grandson. The incident took place between 7.20 pm and 7.45 pm when the daughter-in-law went out to fetch her son from the playground. On her return, she found jewellery boxes thrown around. She rushed to the victim’s room and found her lying in a pool of blood. There is no CCTV camera installed in the area. The value of the booty is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent to post-mortem at Sassoon General Hospital.”

Goon shot dead
As a fallout of the rivalry between the Feroz Bengali gang and Wasim Rafiq Shaikh alias Khada gang, an aide of Bengali was shot dead on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Anwar Shaikh alias Navva (30). He was a notorious goon involved in the murder case of Khada in May 2011. He was the brother-in-law of Feroz Bengali.

According to the police, "The incident took place on Tuesday at 10 pm near Parmar Residency, close to Jyoti Hotel in Kondhwa. Navva was returning home in his Santro car, when an unidentified suspect shot him twice and he succumbed to injuries."

Dumper kills two
Two women on a Scooty were killed after they were knocked down by a dumper truck belonging to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at Ved Bhavan near
Chandni Chowk on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Shivani Deshpande (40) and Madhura Hemant Joshi (27), a resident of Mayur Colony. A case is being registered at Warje Malwadi police station.

The incident took place on Tuesday at 2.20 pm.

Assistant police inspector, Balashaheb Ganvat told DNA, “Deshpande and Joshi were on a Scooty heading from Kothrud road toward Chandani Chowk. The dumper truck was behind them. The driver lost control over his vehicle on the bridge and hit them. Deshpande died on the spot. Joshi succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital.”
