A 20-year-old was caught with two pure ivories by  Customs officials at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Tuesday at around 6.30am. Ivories are a strictly prohibited item in India.
Kushal Singh, a resident of Gujarat, was coming from Ivory Coast by Kenyan Airlines. He was stoped by Customs officers on
suspicion.

According to the officers, Singh claimed he was not aware of the rules. “Singh told us that he bought these ivories from a place close to the airport from where he caught the flight in Africa. It looks like he got into trouble due to lack of knowledge. But it is a serious offence and we have to check his background,” said a senior Customs officer.

“We have come across such a case after a long time. Our wildlife acts are very strict in this matter,” added the officer. Customs officers will be handing Singh over to the state police and wildlife authorities.
