In an unusual case, a family of a four-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted, on Tuesday approached the Sessions court pleading the innocence of the accused. The mother of the girl, who is three months pregnant and is in a critical condition, had approached the court, seeking justice for the accused, who was arrested in a case which was not registered by the family of the victim. The court is hearing the accused's bail application.

Speaking to DNA, the family claimed that the accused youth Sooraj Mourya, was called by the Dharavi police station on April 14, on the pretext of inquiry, and was later arrested. "Mourya is someone who was brought up in our house and treated my daughter as his younger sister. Right from day one, till date, she has been taken care by him."

"On April 13, my daughter started complaining of an ant bite in her private part. Maurya checked it and removed the ant. However, as the ant had bitten the child, there was irritation which persisted, because of which the child kept on scratching. The next day I took her to Sion hospital, it was then that the doctor on inquiry, without allowing me to have a say, told the Dharavi police that my child was sexually assaulted."

At the time of admission, the mother was three months pregnant with twin foetus. "Due to excess stress, I started bleeding. I immediately wanted to rush for a sonography test. However, they did not care and asked me to stay back the entire day. I later realised that I lost one foetus. Finally, my child and I managed to get out of the hospital. Later, we came to know that Mourya was already arrested by the police,"the mother claimed.
