The BMC as a part of the work named a chowk after the organisation. "They sealed our office stating that we are not into educational activities. We have in fact, even been conducting classes on English, promoting Urdu and Marathi," said Zubair Azmi, director of Markaz.

The BMC has issued notices to around 400 premises across the city, that it has leased out. These were given after the BMC decided to take away premises in schools particularly as part of their policy to take back leased premises for right to education (RTE).

"If the school, that we had been given space in had been packed to its capacity, we would have been glad to surrender the place ourselves for the future of children. There are, however, 16 vacant rooms and ours was the 17th room in the municipal school. It is not even that they are utilizing the space to capacity," alleged Azmi.

On acknowledging Congress MLA, Amin Patel for his support to the Bhendi Bazaar Urdu Festival, Azmi said, "Firstly, that is not the issue BMC has raised. Also, we thanked him only because he helped us with permissions. There was no monetary help taken from him. In fact, we are apolitical. When they said that the former chief minister, Prithviraj Chavan will arrive, we stuck to Mayor to inaugurate the festival. For this too we are approaching all political parties."

Former mayor Sunil Prabhu, who is now a Shiv Sena MLA, said, "They have requested me for help in the issue. The BMC has been wanting space for educational activities. But as they have done good work, we will talk to the commissioner."

Congress MLA Amin Patel, said, "I have met with the additional municipal commissioner and have asked her to consider their case. I was earlier assured by the officers that the place will not be touched, but all of a sudden they sealed the premises." Idzes Kundan, additional municipal commissioner did not respond to call and message from dna.
